Jayhawk softball now 15-7 in Western Conference league

The Jayhawk women’s softball team swept league-leading Lansing Community

College last week, 5-0 and 6-2, after capitalizing on four errors by LCC.

They are now 15-7 overall in the Western Conference and 22-11 overall.

The Jayhawks will host Kalamazoo Valley Community College on April 25 before

traveling to Grand Rapids Community College on April 28.

They beat GRCC last time around, 12-0 and 4-3.

They will finish the season with double headers against Jackson College on April 29 and

Lake Michigan College on May 2, before heading to Delta College on May 6 for the MCCAA

state tournament.

The team has won seven of its last eight games in the past two weeks. They took Ancilla

College 6-0 and 10-3, Glen Oaks Community College 8-0 and 13-5, and Lake Michigan College

4-2. Their only loss was to LMC, 4-2.

In the Glen Oaks game, Morgan Engelsman pitched six innings and recorded nine

strikeouts.

The team’s success is coming after a shakeup at the beginning of the season with the

resignation of head coach Abigail Bennett after just one game.

Former coach Colleen Morse, secretary in the MCC athletic office, is the interim coach

for the remainder of the season.
